Uzume, or Amano Uzume, is a Japanese goddess known for bringing light back to the world. Legend has it that when the sun goddess Amaterasu hid away in a cave, plunging Japan into darkness, Uzume danced with such joy and laughter that the other gods were drawn to the celebration. Their cheers coaxed Amaterasu out, restoring light and warmth to the land.
